Canon-McMillan School District Continues to Offer Free Meals to Entire District

Earlier this month U.S. Secretary of Agriculture announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will extend several flexibilities for school meals throughout the remainder of 2020.

“As our nation reopens and people return to work, it remains critical our children continue to receive safe, healthy and nutritious food,” the USDA said.

Canon-McMillan School District quickly jumped on the opportunity and completed the necessary documentation to obtain Pennsylvania Department of Education Food and Nutrition approval.  The district is happy to report that approval was quickly granted. The district knows that the community and families truly valued this program.  At the onset of this pandemic 98,549 meals were served to our community and the district is eager to see that number grow now that the program has been extended!

All students will be eligible for free meals whether learning is in the classroom or virtually. Families with children who are not yet school-age are also eligible for meals under this program. Lunches will include an entrée, fresh vegetables, fruit and milk. Cereal and other assorted breakfast items, along with juice and milk will be provided for breakfast. No congregating at any location is permitted.

Pick Up bundles will be made available for remote students or day students who are not in school, because when students are in school they can get their meals there.  These pick-up bundles will be available at Canonsburg Middle School’s Bus Loop every Monday from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.  These meals will include breakfast and lunch bundled for 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 days.   Please use this new Google Form to sign up so that the district knows how many meals to make.

Canon-McMillan School District remains committed to providing students access to healthy, nutritious and wholesome meals while assuring the utmost safety without compromising quality. Superintendent Michael Daniels is supremely proud that the district is able to provide this necessity,

"During these times when we need everyone to stay healthy, you cannot beat the idea of receiving a free well-balanced meal.  Canon-McMillan is happy to have been granted permission from the state to serve free breakfasts and lunches to every child in our community, pre-kindergarten to 18 years of age, through the end of December, 2020."

Don’t miss out on this fantastic opportunity! It’s another great way that the Canon-McMillan School district is coming together to make things a little easier during these unprecedented and difficult times. If there are any questions about this process please feel free to contact each building, their phone numbers can be found on our website at cmsd.k12.pa.us.
