Canon-McMillan School District Receives EVERFI Champion Seal Designation for Commitment to Whole-Child Education

EVERFI Champion Seal

Canon-McMillan School District has earned the EVERFI Champion Seal, awarded annually to North American school districts who’ve made an exemplary commitment to whole-child education.

This recognition acknowledges our dedication to transformational change in the interest of equity and the well-being of all students. This honor is provided by EVERFI, a digital education organization focused on helping educators address the most challenging issues affecting society, including financial literacy, social-emotional learning, health and wellness, inclusion, and college and career readiness.

Mrs. Paige Linnert, Canonsburg Middle School Family and Consumer Science Teacher, has been using Everfi's Future Smart program for a few years now.  Mrs. Linnert says,

"Everfi offers real-life learning experiences for students, utilizing skills that they will need outside of school and into their adult lives.  Knowing that our students are gaining the financial literacy skills that they need to be successful beyond high school makes me very excited for their future!  I am ecstatic to learn that we have earned the Everfi Champion Seal for the District, in part due to the course used in my Family & Consumer Sciences 8th grade classes."

Ms. Michelle Moeller, Canon-McMillan High School teacher shared,

"I've used Everfi: Financial Literacy for the last several years now in my Personal Finance classes.  They are an engaging reinforcement of the in- class topics we cover.  The video interaction allows each student to work through concepts at their own pace with immediate feedback.

My students are always excited to hear that they can earn $50 for successfully completing the learning modules by opening a checking or savings account at Washington Financial.  This encourages students to be early savers and develop money management skills."

"Mr. Crowley, Mrs. Lani and I are extremely proud of Mrs. Linnert and Ms. Moeller for bringing these experiences to the middle school and high school.  Given our success, we are exploring additional opportunities in grades 5-12 to expand upon these learning experiences,"

said Dr. Taranto, Canonsburg Middle School Principal.

We are honored to be one of fewer than five percent of districts across the nation to earn the EVERFI Student Impact Champion designation. Our educators are dedicated to teaching the whole child because we know that it not only impacts how healthy and productive students are during their time with Canon Mac, but also their well-being and success far beyond the K-12 years.
