Dear Canon-McMillan School District Parents/Guardians and Staff,
We recently received word of additional confirmed cases of COVID-19 in North Strabane Intermediate School (NSIS). For this reason, we felt it important to quickly - and temporarily - close NSIS for in-person instruction.
For your information, we now have two active cases in NSIS; one is a teacher and one is a student. We are also aware that additional NSIS teachers and students are waiting on COVID-19 test results, which may lead to additional positive cases. Per our established protocol, we have been in contact with the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PADOH). Contact tracing was conducted and individuals identified as contacts were notified and directed to quarantine in accordance with DOH guidelines.
As a result, NSIS (only) will temporarily close and move from our current hybrid model to a fully remote model with livestreaming through Monday, November 2. There is an in-service day on Tuesday, November 3 and remote asynchronous instruction will resume on Wednesday, November 4. The building will reopen to students and staff for in-person instruction on Thursday, November 5, 2020.
As with all learning models, information and links to coursework for all students is available on the CM Portal.
Please know we are taking the above action to protect the health and safety of our students, staff and families. We will continue to closely monitor state and local data. Future such decisions will continue to be made with the guidance we receive from officials at the state and local levels. As always, K-6 and 9-12 parents have the option to choose remote learning with livestreaming if the current in-person model does not meet their level of comfort at this time or if they have medical concerns.
Please visit the Pennsylvania Department of Health website (www.health.pa.gov) for the latest and most accurate information about COVID-19 and don’t forget to check the COVID-19 Daily Screener, found on our website (cmsd.k12.pa.us) in the Coronavirus Update Center daily.
As always, we appreciate your support. We believe strongly that we will get through this together.
