Dear Canon-McMillan School District Parents/Guardians and Staff,

We recently received word of an additional confirmed case of COVID-19 at Canon-McMillan Senior High School (CMHS). For this reason, we felt it important to quickly - and temporarily - close CMHS for in-person instruction.

For your information, we now have four active cases at CMHS; three of them are students and one is a teacher. We are also aware that additional CMHS teachers are waiting on COVID-19 test results, which may lead to additional positive cases. Per our established protocol, we have been in contact with the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PADOH).  Contact tracing was conducted and individuals identified as contacts were notified and directed to quarantine in accordance with DOH guidelines.

As a result, CMHS will temporarily close effective immediately. CMHS will move from our current hybrid model to a fully remote model with livestreaming through Friday, November 6. The building will reopen to students and staff for in-person instruction on Monday, November 9, 2020. This closure applies to all sports and extracurricular activities occurring at the high school immediately. The away playoff volleyball game will continue as scheduled as long as everyone participating is not symptomatic.

As with all learning models, information and links to coursework for all students is available on Schoology.

Please know we are taking the above action to protect the health and safety of our students, staff and families. We will continue to closely monitor state and local data. Future such decisions will continue to be made with the guidance we receive from officials at the state and local levels. As always, parents have the option to choose remote learning with livestreaming if the current in-person model does not meet their level of comfort at this time or if they have medical concerns.

Please visit the Pennsylvania Department of Health website (www.health.pa.gov) for the latest and most accurate information about COVID-19 and don’t forget to check the COVID-19 Daily Screener, found on our website (cmsd.k12.pa.us) in the Coronavirus Update Center daily.

As always, we appreciate your support. We believe strongly that we will get through this together.

Thank You.

Sincerely,

Canon-McMillan School District
