COVID-19 Case at Muse Elementary

Muse Elementary School
Posted On: Wednesday, November 4, 2020

Dear Canon-McMillan School Parents/Guardians and Staff,

The Canon-McMillan School District learned today that a staff member who works at Muse Elementary School has tested positive for COVID-19. There are now two positive COVID-19 cases at Muse Elementary, one is staff member and one is student. When making a determination to temporarily close a school facility the DOH and School District take into consideration multiple factors.  In this case the size of the school and no evidence of in school transmission were significant in electing to keep the school open at this time. The school board meeting scheduled for Thursday November 5 at 5:30 p.m. will still be held in the Muse Elementary School gymnasium.

Per our established protocol, we have been in contact with the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PADOH).  Contact tracing was conducted and individuals identified as contacts were notified and directed to quarantine in accordance with DOH guidelines. We are taking all recommended steps to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff. Following PADOH guidance, school will continue as scheduled and the individuals will remain in isolation as directed. Please note, we are performing deep cleanings in all District buildings daily with disinfectant mist machines.

As a reminder, anyone experiencing the signs and symptoms of COVID-19 is urged to contact their primary care physician immediately and to notify the school nurse of the child’s building if there is a positive report or exposure to a positive person. For your convenience and information, the Canon-McMillan School District Screening Tool can be accessed on our website, cmsd.k12.pa.us in the Coronavirus Update Center. It provides detail on signs and symptoms of COVID-19. It’s also important for us to once again highlight the need for social distancing in public spaces and gatherings, wearing a mask and washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds (or use hand sanitizer when soap and water is not readily available).

Please heed the warnings/advisories medical experts are sharing with gatherings of groups and visits to hot spots. Please visit the PADOH website (www.health.pa.gov) for the latest and most accurate information about COVID-19.

The health and safety of our students and staff is paramount, and we continue to follow all aspects of the District’s health and safety plan at all times. We thank you for your patience and understanding as we continue to navigate through this pandemic. We will get through this together.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Canon-McMillan School District
